yay its over! our RE activities on 17th and 19th June (which we took aeons to plan) is now over! i really had a great time, from the initial planning and conducting the activities itself!
anw, just a brief intro about my project. my group's SL organisation is Hougang Student Care Services Centre. so, our main task was to organise an activity for primary school students with behavioural problems.
so many things happened in these two day's activities so i'm not going to type them all out because that will take YOU ages to read, so look out for pics below
17th June:
this was our first day of activity. i was really really very nervous and anxious, but nonetheless excited at the same time. i didn't know what to expect, and i was imagining children running everywhere and refusing to listening to us. i reached there at 9.30 with wenda, ryoji, ernest, chevy, brandon and alvin. i think out of all of us, only chevy, alvin and i have prior experience dealing with children, so basically we're all quite rookies la. and we werent' really prepared for one thing, the whole lesson was gonna be impromptu =.=
so anw the kids came in at about 10 and then they were very rowdy. they're all either p5 or p6 and from different primary schools. took some time to settle them down and eventually we started with a simple introduction with everyone sitting in a circle. there was a total of 12 children (9 boys and 3 girls if im not wrong), and there were 7 of us (sec 3s). looks like it shouldnt be too hard for us to handle them, right? well we did think that way and realised how WRONG we were. so we went on with this icebreaker game where one two people sit facing each other with a groundsheet between them, and when the groundsheet drops, they race to say each other's names (remember we played this in sec 1 orientation!!??) things got wrong at this point. we started facing problems from 3 particular boys, sebastian, patrick and chit guang. these 3 are particularly hyperactive and they refused to play the game and cooperate with us. actually apart from them, the other 9 children are really quite easy to handle. but these 3 required like 4 of us to attend to them, and so there was only 3 sec 3s left to deal with the rest of the children.
after that, we started with the main lesson. powerpoint slide and vanguard sheets on map-reading. it was really quite a success. apart from the 3 boys, the rest participated actively and i admit it was really very very fun to teach them. it's like the complete opposite of what happens in ksp's class (how do i describe this? lets just say no one participates in ksp's class). encountered quite a few problems during the teaching but i think it was generally well done. after that, we let them play with tangrams and rush hour.
during the lesson, we worked with them in these tiny mini-groups. if i dont remember wrongly, the children in my group were wayne, amirah, shanizam, jia min, seng wee and pei ting. these 6 are really nice children, not really problematic. wayne's the most active boy, very cheerful and sunny. amirah, jiamin and peiting were the only 3 girls and i think they are the more introverted type. seng wee too. but, it kinda balanced out because wayne's so active, while the rest are not that active. and wayne is really very very cute, haha. the kind which you really cant resist pinching his cheeks and saying "kawaii" lol.

so anw, it was really very fun and i learnt a lot from the activity. i got to know some of them, and i loved interacting with them. i think though, this activity could have been improved, but still a job well done :D i'll post pictures soon, because i havent gotten them from ryoji.
